The project team has obtained the Master Use Permits for the Addition project.  Construction for the Addition project started in July 2018.

Neighborhood Update

Project Overview:
To accommodate excavation work for the Washington State Convention Center Addition, Olive Way between Ninth and Boren Avenues shifted to the north starting Wednesday, November 21 2018. Three lanes of access to Interstate 5 and Capitol Hill are retained in the rerouted area, including one lane for buses and two lanes for other vehicles. There is also a pedestrian walkway along the new Olive Way route from Terry to Boren that will remain throughout excavation activities.

Time frame:
Rerouted Olive Way will be in place for approximately 18 months, at which point Olive Way will return to its original location with a new street, sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping.

Washington State Convention Center Addition

Additional Notice

Wednesday 9/18 - Oversized load leaving the site from 3am to 6am  

Work to be accomplished between 9/12/19 and 9/28/19 will be:

  • Continued excavation and shoring operations on site
  • Foundations, waterproofing & vertical concrete is in progress
  • Erection of structural steel in progress 
  • Load and export soil from the work site

This will necessitate the following temporary traffic control set-up:

  • Sidewalk closure on the East side of 9th Ave between Howell and Olive 
  • Sidewalk closure on the West side of Boren between Howell and Pine 
  • 3 year closure of Terry Ave between Howell and Olive

Ductbank D & J Excavation:

  • Wednesday 9/18 - Friday 10/4 24/7 No Parking on North & South Lanes of Howell from 9th AVE to Boren 
  • Wednesday 9/18 - Friday 10/4 7 AM - 3 PM Only one lane open East bound open on Howell St between 9th & Boren AVE 
  • Wednesday 9/18 - Friday 10/4 7 AM - 3 PM South bound alley ways between 9th & Boren on Howell will be periodically closed & re-opened 

Layover Loop Restoration:

  • Monday 9/23 - Friday 10/4 9 AM - 3 PM Only one lane South bound open on 9th AVE between Olive & Boren.  One South bound lane closed on Convention PL from Pike to 7th AVE

Regular Work Hours are from 7 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday  
Impact Noise Hours are from 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday - Friday and 9 AM - 5 PM, Saturday - Sunday 

Work outside regular hours to be accomplished between 9/21/19 and 10/5/19 will be:

  • Monday 9/16 - Friday 9/27 7 PM - 6 AM Stripping on 8th AVE between Pine & Pike and at 7th & Pike intersection
  • Monday 9/23 - Friday 9/27 7 PM - 6 AM One lane open West bound and East bound on Pike ST from 6th - 7th AVE, only one lane will be used at a time 
  • Monday 9/30 -  Friday 10/18 9 PM - 4:30 AM WSDOT Express Lane Closure at 9th & Pike
