Washington State Convention Center officials on Monday said that a team made up of LMN Architects, GGN and SHoP is the "apparent successful submitter" in the competition to design a major expansion of the center in downtown Seattle. Subject to completion of contract negotiations, Seattle-based LMN will lead the team as the prime architect. GGN (Gustafson Guthrie Nichol), also of Seattle, will be the urban designer and landscape architect. And New York City-based SHoP (the firm's name appears to be a collection of the first letters of the founding principals' names) will be a resource for co-development planning, center officials said in a press release...

The possible expansion of the Washington State Convention Center has taken a big step forward with the center's purchase of the Honda of Seattle property. The center’s Public Facilities District paid nearly $56.5 million for the property, which is between Ninth Avenue North and Boren Avenue, and Howell Street and Olive Way.
