WSCC's COVID-19 Response

Site Statement:

The Washington State Convention Center (WSCC) Addition project qualifies as a permitted exception under Gov. Jay Inslee’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy Proclamation on construction, and work will continue on the Addition site.

Clark | Lewis is taking precautions to reduce the risk of infection on the WSCC Addition project site. Examples include frequent handwashing, establishing work protocols for “social distancing” of six feet, thorough cleaning on the site, and requiring employees who are sick to stay home. Below is a list of specific measures we are taking:

  • Educating employees on the symptoms of COVID-19
  • Encouraging high-risk employees to stay home
  • Routine cleaning on the site
    1. Adding additional handwashing stations, including warm water sinks and hand sanitizer dispensers, on site
    2. Disinfecting jobsite restrooms / portable toilet areas more frequently and increasing the number of facilities on site, as needed
  • Requiring face masks or coverings for all on-site personnel, to be worn at all times (except while on break/eating)
  • Reorganization of the site to accommodate proper social distancing
    1. Designating stairways as one-way, either up or down
    2. Creating one-directional pathways for moving around the site
    3. Working only in zones where adequate social distancing can be maintained
  • Hosting daily planning and safety huddles outside, spread out, and with no more than 10 people per group
  • Staggering start times and breaks, and leveraging shift work to maximize physical distancing
  • Deploying a rotational telework plan for all Clark | Lewis project management staff, to reduce the number of people present in our offices and allow for greater social distancing
  • Immediate notification to Clark | Lewis is required if anyone on the project has:
    1. Tested positive for COVID-19
    2. Had close contact with someone known to have tested positive for COVID-19
  • Protocols have been established in accordance with CDC and OSHA recommendations to address a confirmed case of COVID-19 on a jobsite or in an office, including isolating the individual, investigating and informing those who may be impacted, and disinfecting impacted areas.

Construction is vital to our community. Protecting our workforce and enabling our trade partners to continue for their crews to work in a controlled and healthy environment is paramount. We’re fortunate that work is in the open air with natural ventilation. Given the current guidance from national industry and health authorities, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC), as well as local health agencies, we will continue to work as long as we can comply with the industry’s evolving best practices, such as physical distancing, hand hygiene and cleaning work areas.

This is an ever-evolving situation. We are actively monitoring new developments and remain fully committed to operating in accordance with the guidelines set forth by national industry and health authorities and local health agencies.
